Beacon Entry- Elegant and Easy Hairstyles

Many cosmetologists may have heard of the competition known as Beacon. This is a competition open to cosmetology students. It requires various things such as three images of your work and a marketing piece. For my marketing piece I have created this blog as well as incorporated my marketing to target you, the client. Many times we go to a salon, love how we look there, then go home and try to recreate the look with no such luck. Here I have compiled a variation of elegant but easy hair styles that you can recreate at your own home. I would appreciate feedback if you chose to try this at home as well. As of right now I only have the pictures to post, within the next few days I will be posting the video's I made instructing you how to create these looks. For now I will explain here how I created the looks to the best of my abilities :)

I also want to add if you are a cosmetology student, I highly suggest you check this out and enter! The contest was suppose to end today but is now extended to March 5th, which still gives you a few days if you would like to enter. Check out all the details at http://probeauty.org.s156347.gridserver.com/beacon/entry/welcome.php

 Steps:
1. Tease the crown of the head.
2. Put hair in lose low pony tail.
3. Curl the hair in the pony tail.
4. Create a hole above the pony tail and insert the hair from the pony tail through (just like a Topsy Turvy which many of us had as kids).
5. Take random pieces of the curled hair and pin it above your "Topsy Turvy" pony tail.

 Steps:
1. Tease the crown of the head.
2. Twist the hair up the middle of the head (bobby pin as you go close to the scalp).
3.Take remainder of the hair twisted and tuck it into the twist you have created, bobby pin to hide the hair.
4. Add a beautiful hair piece such as this flower.
 Steps:
1. Begin by creating a fishtail braid. This is done by grabbing 2 sections of hair. Take a small strand of hair from the first section on the right, cross it over to the section on the left, then take a small strand of hair from the left, cross it over to the right. Continue this all the way down to the end until you have created a fishtail braid.
2. Rubber band the bottom.
3. Add fun hair pieces such as this clip in feather extension or flower.
Steps:
1. Begin by dividing the hair as if you were going to wear your hair in a half way up pony tail, with the rest of your hair remaining down.
2. Divide this section in half and braid normally on the left side.
3. Make another braid on the right side.
4. Move the braids in a position to create a heart.
5. Bobby pin and secure your hairstyle.

Steps:
1. Tease the crown of the head.
2. Pull hair up in high pony tail.
3. If hair is fine then tease the hair in the pony tail as well, or ignore this step.
4. Divide the pony tail into 3 sections.
5. Take the first section and braid normally, pulling on the ends of the braid as you go, creating a wider braid.
6. Tie a rubber band to the end of the first braid, then go on to a second and third braid, again pulling on the ends of the braid to create a wider braid.
7. Now you should have 3 braids, place each braid one at a time around the head and pin wherever you like them placed.
 Steps:
Feather Extensions- You will need feathers, a bead the color of your hair IE blonde, brunette etc, a wooden handle puller, and a pliers.
1. First put the bead onto the wooden handle puller.
2. Section a very small section of hair and loop the wooden handle puller around the hair strand.
3. Slip the bead up to the top of the head.
4.Grab a feather and slip feather into the bead.
5. Grab pliers and clamp down on the bead, closing it on the feather now creating your extension piece.
Steps:
1. Curl the hair then divide a small section of hair on one side of the head from the top of the head all the way down behind the ear.
3.Begin to braid the hair straight down the face as if you were to french braid but only french braiding on one side. (Pull hair only from one side instead of both like a normal french braid)
4.After you have braided the hair all the way straight down to the shoulder, rubber brand the braid.
5. Grab the braid and pull it back behind the head and pin it. (this creates that lose look you see underneath the braid)
6. On the opposite side of the head just braid one small normal three stranded braid.
7. Connect the two braids in the back with a bobby pin.
8. Add a hair piece such as the flower shown.

Steps:
1. Tease the crown of the head and leave out the bangs or face framing and clip aside for later use.
2. Divide the hair in half as if to have the half up half down style, but take the left side and bobby pin in the back, then take the right and bobby pin in the back creating the snooky looking bump.
3. Grab all of the hair and pull it into a pony tail.
4. Roll the pony tail upward then pin to the back of the head.
5. Take the bangs and roll them tightly and pin it.
6. Loop the remainder of hair in the back creating loops or whatever style you like.
7. Add a pretty hair piece to the hair.
Steps:
1. Curl all of the hair but leave a small section of bangs or face framing and set aside for later
2. Tease the crown.
3. Begin by pinning small sections of hair, pulling toward one side below the ear.
4. Continue pinning the curls until all strands have been placed creating that lose messy updo look.
5. Take a small curling iron and curl the bangs and face framing and pull back over and behind the head. Pin them or leave them to hang romantically over the hair.
6. Attach a beautiful hair piece of your choice.
